After the 1st National Championship that happened in 1993 Jiu Jistu has started to get more popularity in Brazil, and Rio de Janeiro was "The Mecca" of this sport at that time with all big names and big clubs based in this city.

Interested to learn more about this sport and after get some more info from a friend that was a purple belt, Escobar decided to stop training water polo and kung fu and start practice jiu jitsu.

In march 1994, Escobar went to a Jiu Jitsu club near his place in Rio de Janeiro, where he met Leo Castello Branco. Escobar started training everyday and to dedicate his time to prepare for competitions... representing at that time Team Alliance.

At Alliance, Escobar has met and trained with some of the bests such as Leo Vieira, Ricardo Vieira, Marcelo Garcia, Demian Maia, Rodrigo "Comprido" Medeiros, Fernando "Terere", Reinaldo Ribeiro and many others.

Escobar got his black belt in december of 2000 from Leo Castello Branco.

Escobar has won some important titles.

After the Alliance's split we've started a new Team named Master Jiu Jitsu until be renamed Brasa.

Besides training and competitions, Escobar was studing Physical Education in the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro where in 2001 he got his University Degree.

After won the ADCC in 2001 he suffered a motorcycle accident that put him away from the mats and changed his training rhythm for some time until be fully recovered from his injuries.

In 2002 he got back in the bjj & wrestling competitions winning some more titles.

For work reasons he moved to Sao Paulo in 2003 where he kept training with Leo Vieira.

In 2005 he got invited to work in Kuala Lumpur-Malaysia where he's currently living and teaching BJJ at Crush MMA Center.

Twice a year Escobar heads back to Brazil where he keep'n touch with his team mates and his master Leo Castello Branco.

He's currently representing CheckMat BJJ and training at Fight Zone Academy with Ricardo Vieira & Chico Mendes in Rio de Janeiro.
